Current rig:

  • CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 @ 3,3GHz
  • GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6770 1GB GDDR5
  • RAM: 3 GB DDR2
  • HDD: 500GB
  • Mainboard: ECS Elitegroup A780GM-M3

The PC I am planning to buy in the next 3 weeks:
No Mouse since I got the Logitech G300 and the G330 headset.
Got a better PSU so I can SLI the GTX 770 in the future ^^.
Might buy a CPU cooler also soon.

Very nice specs for your new machine, if I may make a suggestion there would be a couple of slight adjustments you could consider.

  • First the recently released Samsung 840 Evo (mid-point between the Pro and Basic) is a much better buy as you can take advantage of the new 'Rapid Mode' technology that it is capable of which uses system RAM as a cache to greatly increase speeds of your SSD.
  • Secondly but not as important being to get 16gb as opposed to 8gb, unfortunately RAM is more expensive now than last year but 2x 8gb now makes more sense than 4x 4gb in the future.

Just looked through the website and you are right. The Evo is almost the same prize but way better lol. THanks, Imma get it then.

And yes, I was thinking about getting 8 or 16 Gb RAM and I'll spend some extra bucks and get 2x 8 GB so I can upgrade in the future.

Thanks again (y)

Current Desktop Rig:

Case: Antec 1100
MoBo: MSI Z87-GD65
PSU: PC Power and Cooling Silencer MKIII 750w modular
CPU: Intel i7-4770k @ ~4.2ghz
RAM: 16gb (8x2) Corsair Vengence DDR3 1866
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 770 4gb
SSD: 240gb SanDisk Extreme
HDD: 1TB WD Blue
CPU Cooler: CoolerMaster 212+
Plus random other stuff including NZXT fan controller, Samsung DVD burner, Silverstone card reader, G11 keyboard, g9x mouse, g230 headset, etc.

I wish I was running liquid cooling right now . . . I had an amazing rig some years ago that featured two cooling loops, a triple and double rad, etc. These days, I don't push my clocks too hard, and I don't run benchmarks anymore, so I just haven't bothered. That, and I'm fairly broke most of the time! Grad school eats at the funds, but you'd better believe that I'll be pushing liquid soon after I'm out.

Recently did some upgrades current config:

MOBO: Asus Maximus IV

PSU: Corsair GS800

CPU: I7 2700K OC 4.9ghz

RAM: 32 gig corsair vengence DDR3 1600

GPU: 2x MSI Twin Frozr 3GD5 OC GTX 780

HDD: 3 Seagate 500gig raid 0, 2 random 1TB raid 1

SSD: 2 500gig Samsung 840 evo raid 0   SUCH SPEED

Cooling: XSPC RS 240 kit, lots o 120mm fans and two 140mm corsair silents in the side

biggest difference from last time I posted is the addition of the two Samsung SSDs and the two GTX 780s. I have to say Im quite happy with this setup. I have not bothered overclocking the GPUs as I just dont see any reason

This is what I currently have;

Case: Antec 900
MotherBoard: EVGA 780i SLI
PSU: Thermaltake 780Watts
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4ghz Q6600
RAM: 4GB OCZ
GPU: EVGA GTX 550Ti
HDD: 500gb WD
CPU Cooler: Thermaltake Blue Orb

I had that exact same motherboard when It came out. Was the supreme best of the best back in the day. the funny thing is you could throw a little more ram and a more modern video card in that rig even something cheap like a 750ti and be just fine for 1080p gaming. The biggest drawback is the sata controller uses the PCIe bus which is just odd lol.

#60 \/iruS

Posted 07 June 2014 - 12:29 AM

Many of those who have 32Gb RAM probably use that for things like image and video editing, virtual machines etc. I can't imagine a scenario when that would be useful in a gaming machine...

Oh, and @A Shafted Ninja: OVERCLOCK YOUR CPU MAN! 780Ti SLI will otherwise bottleneck your system and limit performance :)
