So just checking in again to see if anyone else has picked up a VR headset.  If you have it would be nice to connect with other dg members in some of the social VR platforms.

i walked in a Demo set ran by PlayStation guys @ EG games saturday. After waiting 10 minutes to watch them fixing hardware issues, i saw 2 minutes of the Heist ''gameplay''. A PS guy said it was buggy and needs to check everything (you actual hands in the game were polygons lines, FX w/e.... He turned off the PS...

I left at this point LOL  it was a regular PS4, perhaps PS4 Pro will work better.

personnaly, i will wait at least 1 year.

Apparently, netflix is working on a TV show entirely viewable by a VR set....wow !!!!

peace,

vV

Yeah I have a Rift and knowing the specs required to run the Rift and Vive, any console version of VR is years behind.

Just seen that they're releasing s wireless kit for the Vive soon, bringing it closer to something if actually go and purchase.

Like you say though I'm not sure how the console versions are going to keep up, especially at higher resolutions.

in 3 months ill have my VR set...
I went to a game con. in brussels a couple of weeks ago, they had a vr test place there.
But the waiting line whas over 2 hours, so i whas like "fawk that...", and they also had some buggy shit where they had to shut down and reset sometimes...
I did stay there a couple of minutes just watching how the other people where waving theire arms around like idiots...
It did seem fun, but im not sure if the VR is going to be any good for a seasoned gamer like most of the people here...

Cant wait for my VR headset tho...
I got it for free when i bougt my festival tickets...(dont know what brand of vr it is tho...)

I just had a few friends over last weekend and they had been talking about how vr wasn't ready and from what they had seen (adds/videos) not interesting.  Had each of them do the Oculus dreamdeck intro and by the end of it there jaws were on the floor lol.  Oculus touch controllers are shipping in December which is going to open a whole new set of games for me.

I went into a Bestbuy Saturday and tried the rift. It was very tripy. I think in another year or so, they'll get it right. A lot of fun though. Made me dizzy though

VR seems like a massive gimmick to me. VR has a loooooooong way to go in order to be any good IMO. Its overpriced as hell, and you have to have a beast PC in order to run it. I dont think im gonna waste my hard earned money on something like this anytime soon.

It is very pricey and I agree it is not where it needs to be. I think vue and oculus are on the right path. But I am anticipating another 5 years or so for it to be worth the money. And even then, I think $400 is more than enough for it. After all, it is just sensors. All the main power is done on the machine. The headset just is like a monitor, gyroscope and accelerometer. Nothin that fancy

I don't think VR will take a stronghold in gaming the way consoles and handhelds did. Either headsets are too expensive or they are cheap yet designed for mobile users.

Where I do think VR will take off and become more prevalent is at events, theme parks, and other non-home areas. At the moment there isn't really a killer app to help push the platform.

And this is coming from someone who makes 360/VR content
